You Ask - We Answer

  • How long does it take to do?
The online modules take about 30 minutes to work through. We recommend completing one module a week. We suggest you complete at least 5 and up to 12 modules. There are ten online seminars - the seminars are an hour long and there is a new topic every two weeks. You can skip a topic and jump back in.
  • Will anyone know if I'm taking part?
No-one at your place of study (university, institute of technology) will know that you are taking part. The supervising clinical psychology team will know you are taking part and will be able to see your email address and phone number if they need to contact you. Only your coach or your group facilitator will know what information you provide when you take part in the programmes, this information will not be collected for any research purpose. Your coach and your group facilitator will not share your information with anyone outside of the study. You do not have to let your coach know your name and you don't have to let other people in the online group know your full name.
  • How much does it cost?
    Participation is free.
  • What if I'm busy with an assignment or on holiday?
You can skip a couple of weeks when you are busy with an assignment, exams, or on a break - and then jump back in again. You can choose to complete the online modules when it suits you over 3 months. The online skills group start a new skill every two weeks and you can jump in or out at any time at the start of a new skill.
  • How do you know that the programmes will help?
Our programmes are based on Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which is a gold standard treatment for depression, anxiety, and many mental health challenges. In other studies the online modules and the online groups have been found to improve people's mood and reduce their anxiety. We also know that even though online CBT works for many people, it doesn't work for all people. We want to know who best gets helped by online CBT and who doesn't - we will then be able to direct people to the therapy that works best for them personally.
  • What is it like having a coach?
Coaches are "real people" volunteers. You can choose your coach from reading their bio. Your coach will write a text response back to you within three days of you finishing a module. You can send messages to your coach although they might not reply immediately. All of the coaches have received training in how to provide support and direction for the online CBT programmes. Coaches are supervised by a registered clinical psychologist.
